The Eee PC is designed to be easy to use right out of the box. But if you're used to Windows, Linux, or OS X, odds are you might find the default interface a little limiting, to say the least. It's fairly easy to add the KDE desktop manager and other software if you have a little Linux experience. But for newbies (or for anyone who just doesn't feel like taking the time to learn the Eee PC's quirks, there's the lazyeeepc script pack.

This script pack lets you do all sorts of nifty things like:

  • Set up the advanced desktop
  • Add Debian repositories for easily downloading and installing software
  • Add "more tools" shortcut in easy mode "work" tab
  • Install Skype 2.0 beta for Linux with support for the webcam
  • Add a shortcut for Synaptic Package Manager in easy mode
  • Add a shortcut for Superuser File Manager in easy mode
  • Install Windows Media and RealPlayer 9 codecs
All you have to do to run the script pack is download and extract the pack and click the file called lazyeeepc.py to run. The only catch is that the menus are all in Chinese. But you can find a translation at the EeeUser forums.
