Want to get a bit more battery life out of your Eee PC? The current generation of batteries come in 4400 and 5200 mAh varieties, which tend to die after 2-3 hours of use. Asus plans to sell a 6-cell, 7800 mAh extended battery soon, which should give you a bit more power. But if you don't feel like waiting for Asus to begin selling extended batteries, you can pick a 3rd party battery on eBay today. Best of all, there are already 3rd party batteries with capacities up to 10400 mAh, which is reportedly enough juice to power an Eee PC for nearly 5 hours.

Asus hasn't announced pricing on its extended batteries yet, but plans to charge $99 for a replacement 4-cell battery. So it's probably a safe bet that the 6-cell version will cost a bit more. These 3rd party 10400 mAh batteries, on the other hand are available for about $64. They ship from China, so you may have to wait a little while to receive your package.

Note that the extended battery does jut out from the back of your computer, which will probably make it hard to fit your Eee PC in its slipcover or other tight-fitting case. But that seems like a small price to pay for a battery that can double your time away from a wall socket.

Need a spare power adapter for your Eee PC, but don't feel like dropping $40 on one? Mark at Mindful Musings has found a 3rd party power adapter that has the same unusual voltage/power draw specs as the Eee PC adapter.

You can pick up the adapter from All Electronics for less than $10, but shipping costs will drive the final price up closer to $17.

The adapter isn't quite as compact as the one that comes with the Eee PC, but if you need a spare and not a replacement, it might do the trick. Mark reports it does a decent job of charging his computer even though its specs aren't quite identical to the Eee PC charger's.

It looks like Asus isn't the only company coming out with a line of accessories for the Eee PC. And if you don't relish the idea of spending $40 on a spare AC adapter, you might want to check out Brando's travel charger, which will sell for a more reasonable $23. Plus it comes with an assortment of tips for plugging into wall outlets in almost any country.

Brando is also selling a car charger for the Eee PC for $18.

Now, one complaint many users have had with the Eee PC is that it takes for-friggin-ever to fully charge a battery, especially if you're trying to do it when the unit is turned on. So that car charger is only really going to be useful if you're on a road trip or have a particularly long commute. Or if you want to run your computer on your car's battery instead of the Eee PC battery. Eh, nevermind, it sounds like it could come in handy in all sorts of conditions.

Can't wait to get your hands on some Eee PC accessories? I'd love an extended battery myself, but with a spare 4 cell battery going for $99, I'm not sure I'm going to want to pay whatever Asus is charging for the 6-cell battery. Hopefully 3rd party companies will start to make lower cost batteries that fit the Eee PC before too long.

But while we're waiting for any accessories to hit store shelves, we'll have to console ourselves with some sexy photos from French Eee site Blogeee.

While we already knew Asus would be releasing batteries, an assortment of mice, a headset, and slip cases, it looks like there are also adapters for 3G modems coming, some fancier carrying cases in the works. Oh yeah, and an Asus-branded Skype phone and even a USB digital TV tuner.

Some good news and bad news from the EeeUser forums. The good news is that Asus is set to launch the line of Eee accessories I told you about last month by the end of February. The bad news is they ain't going to be cheap.

If the information is correct, a 4 cell battery will set you back $99.99. No word on how much an extender 6-cell battery will cost, but I'm guessing it won't be cheaper than that.

A spare AC adapter ain't cheap either, at $39.99. The rest of the accessories don't look too bad:

• $19.99 for a mouse
• $19.99 for a headset/microphone
• $19.99 for a spare sleeve/case
• $89.99 for a one year warranty

As some folks have pointed out, you could pretty much get a Eee PC 2G Surf for the same price as each of the accessories plus a warranty. Then you'd have a spare battery, AC adapter, and an extra computer. But the 2G model comes with a less powerful battery and doesn't come with a sleeve so there is that to consider.

Asus is starting to sell Eee PC accessories at its online store. Right now, all you can pick up are replacement power adapters in white or black. But hopefully we'll start to see spare batteries, extended batteries and other items pop up soon. In the meantime, if you need a spare power supply for the office, traveling, or to replace one you lost, it's nice to know you can pick one up for just $15.

Asus appears to be launching a line of Eee PC accessories. There's no word on pricing or availability yet, but Asus has added images and specs for several items to the Eee PC website. It looks like you'll be able to pick up a spare charger, battery, or mouse or headset. The mouse comes in several pastel colors, which is umm... exciting. But the thing I'm most thrilled about is the fact that Asus will be selling a 6 cell 7800mAh battery.

The 4 cell battery that comes with the 4G and 8G units is 5200mAh, and lasts for around 3 hours in real life conditions (although it's advertised as a 3.5 hour battery). Hopefully that means you'll be able to get 4-5 hours out of the 6 cell battery.
